MISSION

The mission of Dixon Family Services is to improve the quality of life for all families and individuals in our diverse community. Our intervention and support services are strengthened by cooperation with the schools, churches, businesses and the community.

ABOUT

Dixon Family Services (DFS) was founded in 1984 by a group of parents interested in providing support services to children and their parents around issues of social skills, school situations, and family life. Since the inception of Dixon Family Services we have grown in our services as well as our target populations to include families, seniors and individuals of all ages. Most of the people we serve are of low or very low income status, but our services are available to all community members. We continue today impacting the lives of families and individuals in our community in a positive way.

Dixon Family Services is a private non-profit social services agency. We provide tools and resources to help community members become more successful in their lives. Some of the tools are education, counseling, case management, critical needs services, parenting classes, home visits, and referrals.

We are located in the center of Dixon, housed in what was the old police station. Thanks to grants from California Endowment and S.H. Cowell Foundation, we were able to completely restore the facility to its current beautiful condition. Being on the edge of Solano County, Dixon is a small community with limited transportation to government services and other programs for those in need of help. Dixon Family Services acts as an umbrella agency offering services such as counseling, case management, and basic emergency needs for housing, transportation, and food. Also, during tax season, DFS provides free tax preparation assistance for those who make $50,000.00 or less. This is in thanks to a partnership between DFS, The United Way of the Bay Area and the Internal Revenue Service.

In addition to the services offered by Dixon Family Services staff, we are also an outstation for other agencies. Many additional services are offered right here in our building by organizations such as WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) MediCal, Food Stamps, Section 8, Workforce Investment Board (WIB), Department of Rehabilitation,Families First, Nueva Vida, and many others.

Dixon Family Services is very involved in, and in tune with the community with partnerships and Memorandums of Understanding with the Dixon Unified Schools, Dixon Police Department, City of Dixon, ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs) City Team, Chamber of Commerce, Faith Community, businesses and many youth and adult service organizations. DFS coordinates and participates in numerous community events such as the Community Block Party, Sober Grad Night, Senior Resource Fair, Dixon Advocates For Children and Youth Annual Logo Contest, Child Abuse Awareness Blue Ribbon Ceremony, School Readiness Kindergarten Fair, Domestic Violence Purple Ribbon Ceremony, and the Veterans’ Stand Down.

All DFS programs and services are greatly augmented by generous community volunteers. Our regular volunteer pool consists of approximately 30 people at all times.  During special seasonal projects such as the Senior Resource Fair, the DFS Holiday Food Program, and the Community Block Party our number of volunteers can be over one hundred. DFS staff and volunteers are all motivated to help families and individuals in need.
