Dana Hills High School is located in Dana Point, California, one of four high schools in the second fastest growing school district in California, the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD). Less than one mile from the Pacific Ocean, this school of over 2,500 students serves several small communities, some old, like San Juan Capistrano which grew around its Mission; and some new, like Dana Point and Laguna Niguel which have burgeoned in the last three decades, drawing young families to new ground and fresh salt air. Like the ocean itself, the school and the communities it serves are dynamic bodies, constantly changing but hospitable to an amazing variety and richness of life.
Completed in 1973, Dana Hills High School (DHHS) was the second high school built in the District. It was named after Dana Point, which in turn was named after Richard Henry Dana. Leaving behind the long established San Clemente High, teachers came here motivated by a spirit of adventure, looking to fashion a new kind of school. DHHS was designed and built around a large, open indoor area, "the mall," to foster a sense of community. The mall welcomes students and visitors into the heart of the campus before the bell sends them into the hallways leading to classrooms.
Dana Hills High School is one of the most honored secondary schools in the State of California as a National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School. Dana Hills received a California Digital High School grant totaling nearly $743,000 three years ago plus $130,000 each year. Coupled with substantial technology improvements approved by our Board of Trustees, Dana Hills is now one of the District's most technologically advanced schools.
