Cougar Vineyard and Winery

39870 De Portola Road

Hours: Year Round

Cougar Vineyard & Winery is not our first home winery venture. Over 17 years ago we started making wine in Texas. Chill-laxing with the kids in the picnic area Making good wine in an 85 degree room (yes, the air conditioner was on) isn't easy. Even though the conditions weren't optimum for wine making, we managed to pull off some drinkable wine. We bottled under the Ironstone Winery label.

We had a wonderful experience at this vineyard. A great selection of quality wines for tasting at a good price. You also get a wine glass with your tasting which was a fun treat. The servers were warm and welcoming. They talked with us as if we were life long time friends and gladly answered any questions we had. We also ate lunch here which was a delightful treat. I have been to Vineyards and tastings for years and this place is at the top of my list. Highly recommend for anyone local or those visiting from out of town.

Friendly staff who know their wines and serve them with objective detachment. Great tasting experience, enhanced by a no-pressure, drink what you like approach. Sipping my favorite while overlooking the quiet, verdant vineyard made for a perfect afternoon. Don't miss the great selection of deli sandwiches, salads, and pizzas, either. Would repeat.

Good wine, as one would expect. Large estate with gorgeous views. Prices are reasonable. Staff is mostly nice with a couple exceptions. Do not talk to that older middle Eastern lady at the deli. She is way too busy for you, just save yourself the process of being blown off. She has to be the owner or something. No paid employee could be that rude and get away with it for very long. Once they start serving you, they're great, but don't stand at the counter waiting for them to come, you'll be standing there forever. Go find someone yourself.

We hosted my daughters first communion lunch in their barrel room last year. The atmosphere was great but the service was terrible. They made us feel less important because they had a larger party coming in after us. The server got sick of giving us water and told my daughter she could get it from the pitcher in the deli herself. She then told us that she could only accept a tip in cash. My friends were with us and they were looking for somewhere to host 50 people for their daughters baptism. when they pulled up they loved the place but by the time they left said no way and went to Thornton.

Amazing wine, service and atmosphere. Their wine club is the best around.
