About Us
BREAKWATER BREWING CO. was founded in 2008 by Lars Gilman and Shannon Sager in Oceanside, CA, on the beach in north San Diego county. Lars and Shannon met through a mutual friend the previous year and realized that Oceanside was ready for their vision of a downtown establishment that offered great food and first-rate craft beer.
Breakwater opened its doors in July of 2008, on the corner of Pacific Coast Hwy and Seagaze Drive in downtown Oceanside, just steps away from the town's iconic pier. The restaurant started brewing beer early in 2009, and has been delighting local regulars and visitors ever since.
Using equipment salvaged from a brewery in New Orleans in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Breakwater set out to offer something to just about anyone: there are between 12 to 18 house beers on tap at any given time, as well as 25+ palate-pleasing guest beers, from local and far-flung breweries. The food menu boasts delicious signature pizzas, paninis, and appetizers (including 6 varieties of chicken wings), and eight widescreen TVs display the patrons' choice of sports or television programs. The kid-friendly environment includes video games and pinball machines so there's a place to hang out while their parents enjoy great food and brew.
