Parents are lectured about the dangers to their children when using marijuana, with a cautionary tale of what happened to once-innocent kids who became addicted to the drug. The official forward for the film warns viewers that “the incidents to be seen, while fictionized for the purposes of the story, are based upon actual research into the results of Marihuana addiction. If their stark reality will make you think, will make you aware that something must be done to wipe out this ghastly menace, then the picture will not have failed in its purpose.” Some believe Reefer Madness was originally produced as a propaganda film approved by the U.S. Government. In the 1970s it became a cult film and today it may be seen as just plain funny. Stars Dorothy Short, Kenneth Craig, and Lillian Miles.
