New Years is an awesome time to get out in the outdoors as we resolve to spend more time in nature in 2024!
This docent-led hike to the incredible Tabletop of the McKenzie Preserve will stretch your legs and give you an opportunity to see the sweeping vista of the Central Valley, Sierras, and San Joaquin River from this iconic location. You will also see the rare vernal pools (time of year and weather-dependent) with their unique flora and fauna atop the table. This moderately strenuous hike is about 6 miles round trip with ~1000 foot gain to the Table Top and will take approximately 5-6 hours. Visitors on this hike will experience a wide range of hiking terrain. You will walk on an old ranch road, railroad grade, single track path, and on the Tabletop, you will maneuver around jutting volcanic rocks. Most of the walk to the top will be a gradual uphill climb, while the last 3/4mile is quite steep. The hike will conclude at approximately 2PM.
