History:

In the early 1970s the growing community of Dublin decided that there was a need for more family oriented activities. The East Bay Iceland Corporation stepped in with plans for a new ice skating facility. The land was purchased from rancher George Hansen, a member of one of the city's founding families, and construction began on the new building. On April 7, 1975 Dublin Iceland opened its doors for the first time.

Public sessions and learn-to-skate classes introduced the people of Dublin to this sport. Coaches from different parts of the Bay Area came to teach the young and young at heart to skate. Soon, there was a thriving group of skating enthusiasts at the new rink.

Hockey flourished in the East Bay. In the early years, Dublin was a frequent training rink for the California Seals pro team and the Fresno Falcons semi-pro team. The Tri-Valley Minor Hockey Association began with a small group of in-house teams and has since grown to be one of the largest youth hockey associations in Northern California. Teams of all ages participate in their programs. The Tri-Valley teams compete in tournaments locally and throughout the U.S. and Canada each year. They compete at regional and state tournaments, often qualifying for National championships.

The rink offers regular freestyle sessions for competitive figure skaters and those receiving private instruction.  Also, the St Moritz Ice Skating Club offers figure skaters the opportunity to test, participate in exhibitions, ice shows and competitions. The Dublin rink hosts these events whenever needed. Skate St Moritz, a figure skating competition which originated at the Dublin rink, is considered to be one of the premiere competitions in Northern California. Many skaters who participate in this event and train at Dublin Iceland go on to skate at regional, sectional and the national championships.
